Even before she saddled her first runner as a licenced Fairview trainer, Montana Turner was already a winner.
The 22 year old Port Elizabeth girl is South Africa’s youngest trainer and was welcomed with open arms by the racing fraternity when she had her first three runners on Monday at the Fairview Polytrack meeting. Before the first race owners and fellow-trainers were quick to come and congratulate Montana on getting her license. She even received a wedding proposal!
Montana has been involved with the stables of Dorrie Sham, Corné Spies (PE satellite yard) and George Uren before getting the greenlight to go on her own.
Montana and her family relocated from Cape Town to PE in 2016 and are no strangers to PE racing.
“We bought a farm in PE and already had horses with the Sham stable. I began working at the stable and fell in love with it right away. “The Shams left for Johannesburg and I moved to the Spies stable and later to the Uren stable,” she said at Fairview on Monday.
Dad Mike, mom Michele, her sister Brooke and her brother Justin were all at Fairview to support her on Monday and will be beside her for the entire exciting journey that lies ahead.
The Turners are not scared to shout a good thing home, so get ready to join them!
Of the three horses of the Turner yard that ran on Monday, Justin owned two and is a part owner of the other one.
