It looks like the Port Elizabeth trainers are scoring much more fifties at Fairview than the Protea cricketers at the World Cup in England. Sharon Kotzen became the fifth PE trainer to saddle more than 50 winners in the current season.

The 2y old filly Scarborough Fair won a Maiden Juvenile Plate on Friday (21 June) to get Sharon Kotzen Racing to the milestone of 50 winners for the season.

Kotzen added to her winning tally later at the same meeting when the 4y old filly Margot Fonteyn won for the first time at Fairview (third win of her career).

There are three lady trainers amongst the big five in PE that have already past 50 winners for the season. They are Yvette Bremner (93), Kotzen and Tara Laing (both 51 winners).

With a month in the season still left the chances are good that the Bremner stable will get to 100 winners. The other in the big five is champion trainer Alan Greeff leading the way with 159, and Gavin Smith (93) in third place on the PE log.

The 159 Greeff winners is already a season record and there is no doubt the stable will add to that tally before the end of the season. Jockey Greg Cheyne has ridden 105 winners at Fairview this season – also already a record tally.
