Thirteen 3yos have been entered for the upcoming G3 Winter Derby, the final leg of the Cape’s Winter Series for three-year-olds. Without One World and Vardy, the respective winners of the G3 Winter Guineas and G3 Winter Classic, the 2400m Winter Derby appears to have an open look to it, with recent Listed East Cape Derby winner St Vladimir, and Majestic Mozart and Herodotus (third and fourth respectively in the G3 Winter Classic) appearing the leading contenders.

Champion trainer Justin Snaith has entered the promising and well bred recent winner Nexus, while trainer Andre Nel’s pair include G3 BMW Politician Stakes fourth Sailing Lizard and the Camelot sired impressive maiden winner Anse Lazio.

The 2018 Winter Derby went the way of Doublemint, who scored a facile 3.25 length win over Spring Man, and has subsequently won both the G2 Glorious Goodwood Peninsula Handicap and most recently ran third in the G3 Cup Trial.

The Winter Derby is one of five feature races carded to be run at Kenilworth on July 29th, with the others being the G3 Langerman, Listed Winter Oaks, Listed Ladies Mile and Listed Irridescence. Star of the show could well be the hugely exciting unbeaten two-year-old Captain Of Stealth –one of 12 juveniles entered for the Langerman.
