The Port Elizabeth trainers are closing in on several milestones at the Fairview meeting on the last day (31st) of May.

Leading the pack is champion Alan Greeff with 144 winners for the season. He looks certain to smash the East Cape season record of 150 winners set by Gavin Smith in 2007.

Greeff is just six winners away then of becoming only the second trainer in history to saddle 150 winners in an EC season.

Some of the other PE trainers are also having a wonderful season. Yvette Bremner is creeping closer to 100 winners.

With two months of the season left she should get to the magical mark. She has already visited the number one box at Fairview 90 times this season.

Smith is regaining the form that earned him eight East Cape titles, the last in 2013. He is on 73 winners. Tara Laing became the fourth PE trainer to get to 50 winners for the season at last week’s meeting.

Sharon Kotzen is set to join the big five soon. She is just three winners away from her 50. Greg Cheyne is also on the brink of making history.

No jockey has ridden 100 winners or more in an EC season but Cheyne will get there soon, having 96 Fairview winners already.
