Greg Cheyne not only rode the Jackpot last Friday on the Fairview Polytrack but also set a new East Cape jockey record. He has ridden 93 winners at Fairview this season, surpassing his own record tally of 91 winners which he achieved last season.
With more than two months of the season left, Cheyne is set to become the first jockey to ride 100 winners in an East Cape season. Cheyne and champion trainer Alan Greeff form a formidable combination at Fairview and Greeff is also closing in on a milestone.
Greeff has saddled 141 winners this season and the season record of 150 winners is in his sight. This record was set way back in 2007 by Gavin Smith.
Greeff will be crowned the champion trainer in the Eastern Cape for the 13th time if he stays ahead of the pack till the end of July. Cheyne is aiming for his 7th EC jockey title.
