There is some strong talk in Port Elizabeth racing after the Alan Greeff trained colt Viking Moon won the R150 000 Listed East Cape Nursery (for 2y olds) on Friday (26 April) on the Fairview Polytrack.

The Greeff stable is thinking about taking on the best in the country after a fine win with champion jockey Greg Cheyne in the saddle.

“A bright future,” Cheyne remarked about Viking Moon, which was bred by the Birch family.

Part-owner Frans van der Bergh was at the track to witness the victory and was very excited about what he saw.

He said the change from the grass track to the poly surface after some rain had him worried but he feels the ability of Viking Moon to produce a tremendous late burst gives him hope for the future.

Viking Moon has now won all of his three starts for stakes of R187 000.00.

The Listed Dahlia Plate on 11 May is now the next mission.
