The East Cape champion jockey Greg Cheyne is being hailed as the ultimate team man at Fairview.

Cheyne is from the Western Cape but is the regular jockey in Port Elizabeth for the champion stable of trainer Alan Greeff.

Greeff and Cheyne form a formidable combination but there are times that Cheyne is unable to ride in PE.

That is when Cheyne the team man comes into play – something that Greeff appreciated and referred to when Gavin Lerena stood in for Cheyne this past Friday.

Cheyne passed on his knowledge of the Greeff horses to help Lerena to perform at his best.

Whenever Cheyne gets a chance in PE he also does some work riding with the Greeff horses to get to know his rides better.
It is no wonder that Cheyne enjoys some wonderful successes in PE.
He is on his way to his 7th East Cape title this season. Last season he rode 91 winners at Fairview which is a record.
