The Sheriff is back in town thanks to Cowboy Marco!

There is a good chance that the very popular Gogetthesheriff will make a comeback to the Fairview race track in Port Elizabeth.

Gogetthesheriff was the darling of the PE crowd when he was at his best.

The now 8y old gelding was last seen at Fairview when he was the favourite to win the November Stakes last year.

Unfortunately he had problems at the start with an old behaviour problem at the pens that has been a headache for trainer Jacques Strydom for some time.

Strydom said he and owner Freddie van Onselen decided to retire Gogetthesheriff but now there is hope again.

Wimpie Kruger has been a stalwart owner in the Strydom yard for many years and felt Gogetthesheriff should get another chance.

He bought the horse from Van Onselen and recently Marco Roux from Roux Horsemanship, or Cowboy Marco as he is known in the horse business, also stepped in.

Roux has been working with the Sheriff and he and Strydom feel that huge progress has been made to sort out the behavioural problems of the Sheriff at the starting stalls.

“I was surprised when I saw the Cowboy’s hat in the air and knew that the Sheriff took off with Marco in the saddle.

“There is still some more work to be done. We are not in a hurry,” Strydom explained.

Gogetthesheriff has won 13 races (9 on the polytrack) from 40 starts.

With his good record on the poly surface he will hopefully be in action in the popular Word Sports Betting East Cape Poly Challenge next year.
