Alan Greeff is having a wonderful season but it might not be enough to rewrite the record books in Port Elizabeth.

The champion trainer has 138 winners behind his name with three Fairview meetings left in the current season.

Greeff has been chasing the season record of 150 winners set by Gavin Smith in 2006/2007 for some time.

It is a big ask for Greeff to saddle 12 winners in the last three meetings for the record but it is not impossible.

Greeff will also be eyeing his personal best of last season’s 146 winners. That is only eight winners away.

When the season ends at the end of July Greeff will be crowned as the East Cape champion trainer for the fifth time in a row and for the 12th time overall.

Greg Cheyne has also already made sure he keeps the East Cape jockey title but will be trying to break his own record of 90 wins of the previous PE season.

He is currently on 84 winners. It will be Cheyne’s sixth East Cape title overall, having won it in 2005/2006, 2007/2008, 2008/2009, 2014/2015, last season and in the current season.
