As an owner Hedley McGrath could not have asked for a better start to a meeting on the Fairview Polytrack than was the case on Friday (18 May).

He was involved as a part-owner of the first three winners on the day – Perfect Timing, Seattle Lily and Berry Crush – all trained by Yvette Bremner.

In the case of the victory of Perfect Timing it was indeed perfect timing for apprentice jockey Julius Mpanya in the first race.

He picked up the ride when the flights carrying visiting jockeys from Johannesburg and Cape Town were delayed.

Mpanya replaced Lyle Hewitson and also pocketed his part of the Boodstock SA bonus that Perfect Timing qualified for.

Ryan Munger rode the next two winners, just making it in time for the second race after his delayed flight.

McGrath is also involved in another sport, Triathlon, as the manager of his son, Travis.

Hedley and Travis will be in China next month where Travis will compete in two International Triathlon events.
