It was a disappointing outing for the Port Elizabeth contingent to try and win the Northern Cape Stayers Handicap in Kimberley on Monday (9 April).

The meeting at Flamingo Park was cancelled after some heavy rain and it left the PE visitors high and dry.

Trainer Jacques Strydom was already in Kimberley with his two very lively contenders, Frikkie and Desert Wisdom.

Wimpie Kruger is a part-owner of both horses and also made the road trip from Port Elizabeth to Kimberley in vain. He was also hugely disappointed not to see his charges run.

Strydom and Kruger were part-owners of Key Castle, the winner of the same race in 2013. Strydom will now have to come back next year to have another crack at the race.
