Top Cape Town trainer Glen Kotzen might not have a satellite yard in Port Elizabeth anymore but hasn’t stop supporting racing in the Eastern Cape.

He picked up some black type for Wilgerbosdrift Stud and Woodhill Racing when Luna Child won the R150 000 Listed Breeders Guineas for three year-old fillies at Fairview on Friday (9 March).

The popular Lunga Gila looked after Kotzen’s PE satellite yard but he is now doing duty in Durban. Kotzen still sends some runners to Fairview on a regular basis and has a good strike rate in the Fairview feature races.

As usual with the Kotzen winners in PE it will be worth keeping an eye of how Luna Child progresses. She has now won four races with two places from ten starts.

Her owners were not at Fairview to celebrate her victory but earlier in the day a very patient owner was rewarded with a victory when the four year old filly Limerick Ridge won a Maiden Plate for trainer Gavin Smith.

Smith and Andrea Puggia are some of Limerick Ridge owners and Puggia was at the track to join his trainer in the winners’ circle.

“As an owner you sometimes need a lot of patience and deep pockets. This is her first win in 16 attempts,” a happy and relieved Puggia said.

Smith was also very happy as he gets worried when he sees Puggia at the track. “We were joking about that when Andrea he is at Fairview our horses usually don’t win but now we have hit that hoodoo out of the park,” Smith said with a huge smile.
