There is no better way for Port Elizabeth owners to start the new racing year in the East Cape with four races carrying a Racing Association (RA) bonus of R20 000 each for the winning owners.

Trainer Alan Greeff and jockey Greg Cheyne, the East Cape champions, were amongst those getting a share of the RA bonuses.

Ashley Fortune and Mark Paddock were other owners at the Fairview track on Wednesday 3rd January to collect their bonus at the first East Cape meeting of 2018.

The highlight of the meeting was the running of the R150 000 Listed Lady’s Bracelet that was won by the Captain Al filly Merysagos, trained by Justin Snaith for the Drakenstein Stud team.

The Snaith satellite yard saddled three winners at this meeting to show that it will be a very interesting and exciting year at Fairview.

With the Snaith yard picking up the pace the competition will be fierce as top PE trainer Dorrie Sham has relocated to the Vaal.

Greeff is leading the East Cape trainers’ title race at this stage of the season, followed by Tara Laing and Yvette Bremner.
