IT is not easy to recognize the real Port Elizabeth princess in this huge victory for racing in the Eastern Cape.

The three year-old filly Via Seattle can certainly claim to be the PE Princess after winning the R250 000 Princess Charlene gr3 Starling Stakes on Saturday (4 Nov) at Turffontein in Johannesburg.

For PE racing this victory means a lot as Via Seattle is PE bred, owned and trained.

It is never easy for a PE horse to travel and win big races in the other centres but the stable Yvette Bremner has done that yet again.

Bremner can also claim to be the PE Princess. To win this race, raiding from PE with a 66/1 shot is a wonderful achievement.

The Sail From Seattle filly was bred in PE by Ascot Stud and it was there at a parade where Kayla (daughter of Bremner and Hedley McGrath) picked out Via Seattle for the stable. No doubt Kayla could also be the real PE Princess.

Via Seattle is owned by McGrath and Braam van Huyssteen. Van Huyssteen was at Turffontein but Bremner and McGrath left Via Seattle in the care of the stable assistant Carl Hewitson for the Gauteng trip.

Carl’s son, Lyle, was the winning jockey to round of the PE team and family effort.
