Fairview and the Sunshine Sweepstakes Algoa Cup weekend got the thumbs up from racing fans in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

With the weather playing along a huge crowd rocked up to watch the running of the PE’s big race, the Algoa Cup, sponsored for the first time by Sunshine Sweepstake.

There was a wonderful atmosphere at the track and patrons who follow international racing could well have thought they were in Hong Kong, not just because of the great vibe, but also seeing the winning horse in the colours of Edmond Siu.

The black and red colours of Siu is well known to racing fans in Hong Kong but also in PE now as the five year-old gelding Nebula, owned by Siu, won the Algoa Cup  for the second consecutive year.

Nebula was ridden by Bernard Fayd’Herbe and is trained by Brett Crawford.

“It is always good to be in PE and great to defend the title successfully. It has been a fantastic day,” Crawford said.

Only three horses have won the Algoa Cup over the last five years with Disco Al recording back to back victories in 2013 and 2014.
