It is not often that a Port Elizabeth based jockey gets a chance to ride a winner for the top owners in South Africa.

Charles Ndlovu was understandably very happy in winning the Fairview 1800 (Non-Black-Type) on Friday (30 Sept) for Mayfair Speculators.

Stormy Eclipse, trained by Tara Laing, won the race. Laing was full of praise for Ndlovu, who is connected to the champion yard of Alan Greeff but also gets involved in the Laing yard when possible.

The Greeff yard won the other big race on the day – the Racing Association Plate over 1400 – with Seattle Flame.

The Sail From Seattle colt was bred by Ascot Stud and races for Braam van Huyssteen and Greg Bortz.

It was a bit of a tricky one for Van Huyssteen and Bortz to have a bet on the race. They were connected as part-owners to three of the horses in the race. Copper Trail ran third.

The Kimberley raider Bongo Dance ran second and a very happy owner Francois du Toit and his wife, Karen, was at Fairview to see the horse in action.

Red Special, another Du Toit owned horse and also trained by Stefanie Miller, took fourth place in a MR 65 Handicap.

“I am very happy with their runs. It was an enjoyable day,” Du Toit said in the HB Christian Room at Fairview.

He attended the rugby test between South Africa and Australia on his way back to Kimberley from Port Elizabeth on Saturday and will no doubt visit Fairview again.
