Trainer Mike de Kock and owner-breeder Charles Savage have been voted on to the national board of the Racing Association in a poll among members.

De Kock is the most famous name in South African horse racing, having started out as an assistant trainer to Ormond Ferraris in 1984.

He has been South African champion trainer eight times, saddled more than 3,000 winners and raced successfully in nine racing jurisdictions around the world. He is a life member of the RA and a member of the NHA Rules Committee.

Savage is CEO of JSE-listed fintech specialist Purple Group, has been involved in derivative financial markets for 17 years and was a pioneer of spread trading in South Africa.

The RA’s mission is to protect and support the interests of horse racing and, in particular, those of racehorse owners.
