Whisky Baron, winner of the 2017 G1 Sun Met, is one of 48 horses entered for the G1 Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup.

Trained by Brett Crawford, the five-year-old has made just three starts since his impressive Met win.

Whisky Baron followed up a sixth place finish in November’s G2 Shadwell Joel Stakes with a creditable fourth to Gauteng Guineas winner Janoobi in February’s G2 Zabeel Mile.

The gelded of Manhattan Rain then followed  up his Zabeel Mile effort with a disappointing eighth place in the G1 Jebel Hatta, beaten 9.25 lengths.

His trainer said after Whisky Baron’s last run,” “Whisky Baron’s work in Dubai going into that race had been so good, much of it with Mike de Kock’s Janoobi, who finished third in the race, so I was very disappointed how flat our horse ran.

Granted, Whisky Baron got buffeted about a bit, but I have no excuses. He ought to have performed a lot better than he did, so we won’t persevere with Dubai and, in any event, Hong Kong will give him another four weeks to recapture his form.”

Other notable entries for the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup include the South African bred Singapore Sling, who finished a close second in the recent BMW Hong Kong Derby.
