South Africa’s reigning Horse Of The Year Legal Eagle looks a tough nut to crack in the G2 World Sports Betting Green Point Stakes this Saturday.
Unbeaten over the 1600m trip of Saturday’s race, Legal Eagle, who won the Green Point in 2016, is weighted to win the race and he made a pleasing comeback when a close up third over a trip short of his best and he does look the one to beat.

Another Equus Champion, Edict Of Nantes, could be the champion’s biggest threat this weekend. The four-year-old son of Count Dubois impressed when beating older G1 winning stable mates Sail South and Captain America in a pinnacle stakes over 1400m.

A slightly unlucky third in last season’s Vodacom Durban July, Edict Of Nantes has scope for further improvement and could well pick up the pieces, should Legal Eagle falter.

His stable mate, and dual G1 winner, Captain America will be making his fourth appearance in the Green Point Stakes, having won the race back in 2015. The big bay is yet, however, to beat Legal Eagle over a mile and may well have to settle for a place again behind the champion.

Sail South, the third of the Brett Crawford runners, split Edict Of Nantes and Captain America when second on his comeback run over 1400m. Winner of the G1 Champions Cup this season, he does appear held by Legal Eagle on past clashes and a place appears his best hope.

Gold Standard made a pleasing return when a close up, and unlucky, fourth in the G3 Matchem Stakes last time out. The Trippi colt was having his first race in nine months and can only have come on from that run.

Matchem winner Our Mate Art and recent winner Copper Force both look to have tough tasks at the weights.
