The Stanley Ferreira trained What a Story won a Maiden Handicap over 1450 metres at Turffontein Racecourse on 15 September to earn his owner and breeder (Byword (GB) – She’s a Star – Eli’s Star) Mr JH Cronin the RA Owner of the Week Award. The four year old gelding who has had a number of places was ridden by Marco van Rensburg and started at 10/1.
Singapore – The 2014 Racing Awards were held in Singapore last night and congratulations must go to champions Joao Moreira (jockey), Harry Kassim (apprentice), Laurie Laxon (trainer), Joy N Happiness Stable (owner – prizemoney), Fred Crabbia (owner wins) and the marvel that is Street Legal, who took the coveted “Most Improved” award.
At time of going to press the awards that are voted on, including Horse Of The Year, are yet to be decided.
All will be back to normal on Friday night when the nine-race card looks a mixed bag of some solid racing but tricky punting affairs.

Jockey Weichong Marwing, who is currently based in Hong Kong, will be jetting back home for Guineas Day.
Marwing, who is currently 14th on the Hong Kong jockeys’ log having finished seventh last season, will be riding Close The Gap for trainer Ormond Ferraris in the R500,000 Wilgerbosdrift Stud Gauteng Fillies Guineas and Platinum Jet for his brother Weiho in the R1,000,000 Betting World Gauteng Guineas.
