“They are breaking serious records,” jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe said when referring to the Alan Greeff stable at Fairview.
Fayd’Herbe was speaking after he rode the filly Rings And things to victory in the eighth race on Friday.
That was the fourth winner for the Greeff stable at this meeting and his 151 winner for the season – a new East Cape record.
Gavin Smith held the record with 150 winners in an East Cape season in 2007 until this season’s unbelievable run by the Greeff yard.
With more than a month still left of the current season, Greeff can set a formidable new record mark at the end of July.
“It is lovely to be part of this and I always like riding at the beautiful Fairview track,” Fayd’Herbe added.
Greeff was unaware that he got to the record on Friday but admitted that his yard is enjoying a very good season.
Although it was Fayd’Herbe that got the winner to go past the previous record, Greg Cheyne is the jockey that rides the most winners for the Greeff stable.
Cheyne will make history himself when he rides his first winner this coming Friday at Fairview. That will make him the first jockey to ride 100 winners in an East Cape season.
He has already gone past his own record of 91 winners that he set last season.
At the end of this season Greeff will be crowned the East Cape champion trainer for the 13th time. Cheyne will take the East Cape jockey title for the 8th time.
