If the nominations are a true indication of the prospective final field, one of the strongest fields of fillies and mares ever assembled in South Africa could go to post for this year’s R1-million HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes (Grade 1) over 1600m on Saturday 13 April.

Heading the list is four-yearold Oh Susanna, winner of four Grade 1 races including last year’s Sun Met. Justin Snaith’s charge runs off a merit rating of 119 and, should the trainer need any further enticement, the Australian-bred filly has landed No 1 draw.

Also among the 17 entries are Grade 1 Garden Province Stakes winner Redberry Lane, Cascapedia, Fiorella, Fresnaye, previous SA Oaks winner Secret Potion and a plethora of leading three-year-olds, among them Celtic Sea, Ghaalla, Nafaayes and Running Brave.
