The Port Elizabeth racing fraternity is enjoying the wonderful success of the 3y old gelding National Park with the stable of trainer Yvette Bremner.
In recent times the Bremner stable has been flying the flag for the Eastern Cape with some good showings in other centres and the win by National Park on Saturday (2 Feb) was yet another highlight.
National Park won the R1 million Gauteng Guineas at Turffontein in Johannesburg to the delight of Bremner and the PE racing fans.
Hedley McGrath and Mark Wright have been owners for many years in PE and own National Park in partnership with Bryn Ressell of Cape Town (who grew up in the Eastern Cape).
Not one of the owners was at Turffontein to enjoy the victory with Carl Hewitson of the Bremner yard but the loud cheers in PE, with McGrath and Bremner leading the way, made sure National Park received all the support that he needed.
At the PE meeting on Friday 1 Feb the strong stable of Cape Town trainer Justin Snaith won the Fairview Mile (Non-Black Type) for the second year in a row.
The 6y old gelding Star Chestnut won with Richard Fourie, who also rode National Park at Turffontein the next day, in the saddle.
